Job Description:

Job Overview

The Histotechnician (HT) performs under the direction of the pathologist and laboratory management staff.  The HT will proficiently and accurately process, cut, stain and mount specimens for pathologist interpretation.  As needed, the HT will assist with frozen section preparation and the preparation of materials for cytology adequacy assessment and other tasks as designated by management staff.  This position implements and utilizes quality management standards in compliance with CAP directives/checklists/protocols.  Actively leads and/or participates in process improvement activities and other duties as assigned.  This position also maintains professional growth and development through continuing education and professional affiliations.

Job Qualifications

  • Two years college with at least 12 semester hours of biological sciences plus one year histology technical training OR
  • Bachelor of Science, plus one year of histology technical training, preferred
  • Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of lab experience as histotechnician preferred
  • Experience with lab information systems, CoPath preferred
  • Experience with Immunohistochemical staining instruments and procedures strongly preferred
  • Possess a working and theoretical knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and procedures
  • Experience in compliance with regulatory and laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Lifting/carrying objects up to 25lbs
