Oncology registered dietitians (RDs) provide nutritional consultation and medical nutrition therapy to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience including primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence and palliative care. Collaborate with other health-care professionals to ensure nutrition screening mechanism is consistently identifying patients at risk. Provide nutrition interventions in a proactive manner that may include assessment (considering diagnosis, treatment, other co-morbidities, diet history, physical examination, laboratory data, medications, clinical symptoms, and psychosocial, cultural and educational factors affecting nutritional status), client-centered goals, appropriate follow-up and communication with interdisciplinary team members. Systematically evaluate the quality, effectiveness/outcomes and relevance of the oncology nutrition services provided to oncology patients. Revise practice as needed. Keep involved with ongoing priorities and provisions of services with oncology nutrition care. Function in outpatient, metabolic support, and inpatient settings to manage the nutritional care of patients. Required to meet all regulatory agency requirements including but not limited to the Joint Commission and State Department of Health.
Key Position Qualifications
Minimum of BS in nutritional sciences or related field.
Graduate Degree preferred
Registered Dietitian / Licensed Dietitian by the Oklahoma State Board Medical Licensure and Supervision required
3 year’s experience in related field preferred
Solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients.
Excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels
Ability and interest in developing and implementing nutrition education programs, developing tools to measure needs of patients and quality of services Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team providing patients comprehensive care and with support of service departments.
Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the workplace and good verbal/writing skills.
Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process as it relates to the nutrition needs of cancer patients and ability to apply all steps of the process
Knowledge of the Assessment, Data, Intervention, Monitoring and Evaluation (ADIME) charting format or willingness to learn format
Demonstrate critical thinking and sound judgment
Demonstrate leadership skills
